Fire, Evacuation And Crowd Safety Blog
The "Fire, Evacuation And Crowd Safety Blog" has recently been started by the Fire Safety Engineering Group (FSEG) at the University of Greenwich:

http://fseg.gre.ac.uk/blog/

The first post discusses the Duisburg Love Parade Crowd Tragedy.

I've added the URL to the links page.

Cheers.

Is anyone aware of any code for crowd safety? I am aware that there are few guidance documents, but I am not sure if there is a specific safety code for crowds; especially in open space. If anyone knows any, please let me know.

thanks,

Rodrigo

There is the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds ("Green Guide") which would be a good place to start:

Contents:
http://www.culture.gov.uk/images/publications/SafetyatSportsGrounds-summary.pdf

Wiki entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Guide

Quote:

The Green Guide is a UK Government funded guidance book on spectator safety at sports grounds. It was created in the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster.

The Guide provides detailed guidance to ground management, technical specialists such as architects and engineers and all relevant authorities to assist them assess how many spectators can be safely accommodated within a sports ground.

It has no statutory force but many of its recommendations will be given force of law at individual grounds by their inclusion in General Safety Certificates issued under the 'Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975' or the 'Fire Safety and Safety of Places of Sports Act 1987'.

Thanks. I was aware of this document, which is really good though. I think I have already put it into the literature data basis of evacmod awhile ago.

cheers,

Rodrigo

Dear friends,

It is very good for me to read the blog. It is another opportunity to share information about our themes of interests.

Regarding the Crowd Safety Code, I will investigate in these days if in Italy we have something similar (but unfortunately until now I have never read a document like this).

Regards,
Enrico

Considering the potential legal impact and commercial repercussions of people working in the field expressing views in a public domain, it is good to see this blog as taking a step forward.

Being as it is so easy to set up blogs etc, hopefully more will be started.
